Transmission of AIS as an Aid to Navigation and Discontinuation of Wave Activated Whistles

Aid: North and South Burford Buoys

Area: East Coast of Ireland

The Commissioners of Irish Lights hereby give notice that on or about 9 January 2009, or as soon thereafter as circumstances permit, the North and the South Burford Buoys will be upgraded to transmit AIS (Automatic Identification System) messages as an Aid to Navigation. At the same time the wave activated whistles will be permanently discontinued.
