Bull Rock Lighthouse - Establishment of Radar Beacon

The Commissioners of Irish Lights hereby give notice that on Friday 15th May 1998, a radar beacon will be established at Bull Rock Lighthouse (A6430) as follows:-

Frequency:
X/S Bands (3cm and 10cm)
Response Time:
Continuous: simultaneously active on both X and S bands for 9 seconds in every 30 seconds.
Azimuth Coverage:
360°
Range:
16 to 27 nautical miles.

Range will vary depending on ships radar transmitter power and scanner height. These are theoretical maximum ranges and allowance should be made for weather conditions and the condition of the radar equipment.

The Racon at Mizen Head (A6448) will be discontinued co-incident with the establishment of the Racon at Bull Rock. The geographical position of Mizen Head Lighthouse is:

No further notice will be issued.
