Eagle Island Lighthouse - Solarisation, Alteration in Character, and Reduction in Range of Navigational Light

Area: West Coast of Ireland

The Commissioners of Irish Lights hereby give notice that on 8th October 2001, or as soon thereafter as circumstances permit, the light at Eagle Island Lighthouse (A6268) will be replaced by a new solar powered light. This will necessitate the provision of a temporary light for a period of approximately two weeks from about 24th September 2001.
The character, phasing and ranges of the existing, temporary and new lights are as follows:
EXISTING LIGHT

Range: 23 nautical miles
Height above MHWS: 67 metres
Lighting Time: 24 hours

 

TEMPORARY LIGHT

10° 05.5' W

Character:

Fl. (3) W 15s

Fl 0.15, ec 2.4, fl 0.15, ec 2.4, fl 0.15, ec 9.75 = 15s

Range: 11 nautical miles
Height above MHWS: 68 metres
Lighting Time: Hours of Darkness

 

NEW SOLAR POWERED LIGHT

Range: 19 nautical miles
Height above MHWS: 67 metres
Lighting Time: Hours of Darkness

Radio Navigational Warnings will be issued on the establishment of the temporary light and on the commencement of the new solar powered light.
