The Commissioners of Irish Lights (Irish Lights) is seeking Expressions of Interest for appointments to its Board. The mission of Irish Lights is Safe Navigation at Sea. We are a maritime organisation delivering essential 24/7 safety and navigation services, 365 days a year. Irish Lights operates on an all island basis, covering both Ireland and Northern Ireland. We have strong working ties with our sister agencies Trinity House and Northern Lighthouse Board in the UK.
Irish Lights is a trusted service provider and regulator, ensuring safe navigation for over 200 years. With a strong focus on innovation, technology and sustainability, Irish Lights plays a leadership role at national and international level to align its safety and navigation services to evolving policy, regulatory and industry needs.
Our current 2025-2030 Strategy is on our website Safe Seas – Connected Coasts 2025-2030, and recognizes the exciting and challenging trends in the maritime sector at national and international level.
We are looking for experienced individuals to join our Board to support the implementation of our strategy. Applicants should have Board experience as well as expertise and a professional qualification in one or more of the following:
- Finance – a qualified accountant
- Legal – A qualification and experience in the legal profession
- Professional Qualification and experience in Risk or Compliance.
- Professional Qualification and experience in Environment, Sustainability and/or Heritage.
Experience in the areas of Public Sector Governance, Marine, Maritime or Navigation would be beneficial and is desirable but not essential. This would include expertise or specific experience of working professionally in any sub-sector of the marine and maritime sector e.g. shipping, ports, offshore wind, fisheries, leisure, marine technology, surveying etc. or knowledge of navigation gleaned from a qualification (e.g. yacht master) or a sailing/seafaring background (leisure, merchant, navy).
