Y2K issues relating to Marine DGPS service

Notice is hereby given that the Marine Differential GPS Service operated by the General Lighthouse Authorities of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland (Trinity House, the Northern Lighthouse Board, and the Commissioners of Irish Lights) will accurately process Date/Time data from and between the twentieth and into the twenty first century, including the Leap Year, and is therefore Year 2000 (Y2K)compliant. However, the General Lighthouse Authorities can give no guarantees concerning the Y2K compliance of GPS, although the United States authorities maintain there are no problems with GPS.
Mariners are therefore advised to ascertain from manufacturer(s) of the equipment that they own or use that their receivers are Y2K compliant.
Mariners are warned that this is just one of the several critical dates through 1999 and 2000 when some electronic systems may fail due to their inability to process the date. Further details on the risk and precautionary action to be taken can be found as a correction to all volumes of the UKHO Admiralty List of Radio Signals.
By Order, T. M. Boyd, Chief Executive.
